Dear Mother,
I received your letter, also enclosed Rods photograph post card, and letter from Yvonne, which I appreciate very much; it is just the image of Rod, but he looks a bit thin on it. Since I left Sydney, I have got fat; will get my photograph taken where you will notice the difference between it and the last one that I had taken. Your billy can arrived quite safely, which contained sheepskin vest, peanuts, chewing gum, lollies, soap, tooth brush, & paste etc; the tooth paste was the most welcome, for I have had none since I left Sydney. Have seen Gascoigne-Ray and Charlie Marsden, also Tom Marsden, Healy (Sgt Major). Did you see the fighting career of the former family, which was in the "Sunday Sun"? My pal George Bourke, who was in the 18th Battalion is missing; he used to live in "Hailshot" near our place; Jess Cruickshanks cousin is in the same battalion. If you think of it or seen anyone from G M & Co you might tell them that I received their billy can, it was a snifter one, painted black, we had a blowout that day. Have not had Gins
