Dear Mother,
Am just beginning to make a start to answer your three letters dated 6th, 13th & 20th. Am getting your letters pretty regularly now as well as the rest. Have told you in previous letters about seeing rod who has gone out to the trenches for a few weeks. You said you cannot rely on what you see in the papers; well you know more about the war than we do. Glad young Gassby is home again. Rupert his brother is better long ago as he knows. Rupes arm must be ripe by this, but dont listen to him about letting him come back. How are you all at the Nest, I hope those beastly headaches have disappearsed by this. Yes I did get billies I could have started a shop. Please thank Auntie Edie for the socks, also Auntie Eve for her shawl and fly net. I could not have eaten your pudding if you would have sent one as I had eaten enough for a week. Have asked Dad to send me some money for a camera or to send me one. So far have not received Mrs Andersons, or Winsomes socks.
So gald you got the rest of letters. Have met more Neutral Bay boys, we should look on, we are neutral.
