There is a huge one, huge, going round that there is a peace conference going to be held on August 4th. I hope it is true, as we wont be sorry. Every day the huns put up boards on top of their trenches with notices, last night there was a red board waving washouts and the day after the charge they had a notice up, "you were twenty four hours too late". Every bomb, or shell we receive, we send three times that as much back, they'll always get receipts from us. It is pretty quite opposite us now as the Saxons are back, the Bavarians are always shelling us; the prussian guards are such another lot. Last night I spotted Fritzy & Co building up his trench where we gave him a receipt, we at once put the lewis gun on him (machine) he yelled out, and we heard the horn sound (horn for stretcher bearers). The Major lost his batman in the scrap, and he asked me to look after him, so now I am well up in the Sojers, fancy I was a common private once, now a batman; good pick too. Well Dad must soon close, hoping you and all at home are all O.K., and keep so; love to all from
Your affectionate son
Rex
