You must excuse this writing, for it is so hot today, also the flies are bad, it looks like rain too. Our battalion is getting snifter tucker lately, roast beef, eggs, and steak. We used to get bread, but the last six days we have had none, so we have to buy it. Everyone is short of money now, we are all waiting for next pay day, which I think will be at least a week. I often think that a good pudding would go well, or a tin of biscuits, or figs, they could be sent you know, if you put them in such a way so as not to break. Wouldn't it be snifter to get a pudding for Christmas, Eh! Could
you send any? Perhaps so. Or would you send a tin of biscuits, a tin as big as a glove box. Packed well it would carry like other boxes which arrive here. Chocolate is good if packed well. A good bit of cake would go better. Mrs Anderson has not written yet, nor Winsome. Expect some mail soon from Australia, as there is a rumour going round now.  Will soon have to close as it is
