Dear Mother,
Still another line to let you know we are still O.K. and going strong, and hope to keep to it. We have come back from the trenches and are having big parades every day; since being out from the sea air of the canal, I have grown into a nigger for I am as black as an aboriginal, and they are black. Rod has developed into a darkie also, in fact all of us are half casts so to speak. We sre living pretty high now butter, fowls, cigars, tinned fruit, sausage etc; most of the tinned fruit is Australian, and which is a treat to have. All the tinned stuff over here is in junks, and has not the taste as ours have. Last mail I received letter from "Raheen" also from Dad; and some outsiders; Auntie Florie also sent me a P.C. asking me to go there if I reach there; of course I will take every opportunity of going to see her; and have a good fly round too. Suppose we will be in France soon as we are leaving any day. We have all been issued with new clothing, hats, etc. Shall have my paybook stamped once again in a strange place.
