Egypt, only eight of his reinforcements came over, ones that had seen active service before.  It has been pretty rough here, all along the coast you can see the surf breaking on the shore, but say what you like, its nothing like our surf, there is only surf here when it blows hard. It is for all the world like a city here now, we have gone so far as to have a train line running along the beach, of course only for stores, and is worked by the Maltese, who get three shillings and six a day. There is no engine attached to this train, it is a push one; give it a shove, and away she goes one.

We have four piers now, as well as two landing stages for stores. Would like to be on Manly pier instead of the pier here; Watsons Pier, Walkers Pier, Anzay general, and another one which I forget. Beachy Bill still throws over his daily rations, shrapnel.

Well as I have to write to plenty of people and I dont know their addresses you might let me know Aunt Edie, and Eves. Tell Yvonne that I like big letters from her, like I got from Marjorie Dalgarno, who by the way, I've to write to. Well as I have no more news to tell you I will close with heaps of love  to both you and Dad, also Gin, and I wish you all a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year.

I remain
Your loving Son
Rex.

[In margin]
[indecipherable] just got word of a mail arriving. So glad you are better than you were before I left. Hope Dad passes his examination, but dont let him come away. Did you get my photographs which I had sent from Egypt? Will write next week.
