ones, I got some iced lemonade from the cook, as well as some cakes. Some of us were in first class carriages, they were better than the third class for they had cushioned seats, and were a lot cooler.  It was very pretty going through the different towns, also through the country, for
we could see the Suez Canal for nearly all the way, its water is as blue as anything.  I have written to Rupert at the peninsula, where a chap that knows him, says he is there, and he tells me, is better than anywhere; good food as well as plenty to look at. Am sending you and Gin, some pretty views on post cards, of Cairo, and Port Suez, which I think you will like, as they are books of P.Cs.  I have met some very nice people here (FRENCH) and most of them say they are coming to Australia as soon as the war is over. Along one street in Cairo, there is nothing but French shops, shop where they sell anything; one of the shops that I bough ribbon in, had Australian flags, kangaroo, & emu designs on cloths, and Advance Australia Fair. I went in to buy some ribbon for my shoulders, of the Battalion colours, but they would  not take any money, sewed them on & all, would not dream of it.
