Dear Mother,
Have been moving about lately, hence the delay in writing to you; before I left Blighty I had time enough to send you all Christmas cards, but then I missed somebody.
Nothing unusual so far though don't suppose that will be the case long, as we are in great demand just at present.
After this I will put the usual identification marks. It is very cold at present, but as per usual only my feet and hands suffer from it; the gloves that I bought in January whilst on leave, have come in very handy the issued gloveis not up to much, for they are made of cotton. Had a letter from you dated August, also two from Dad one from Yvonne, all through Joss; some come through Maple & Co in good order.
Did not have time to see Rupe before I left; wired him and wrote too, but without avail; left him some odd clothes that he could make use of, and left some for him to have washed and to send over if I wanted them.
Our camp is very muddy already, and will be as bad as the Somme if we are here much longer, still and all we have to put up with these little things, and make the best of it; it sticks on our boots and together with the wind makes our feet cold.
The people about here speak very good English indeed they have been amongst the the boys long enough. everywhere we go, the people seem to pick up our slang better than anything else; once they did not compre, but now they do.
