Dear Mother,
I would have written before this only the cold weather hindered me. It has been cold as ice the past fortnight, and is very cold just now, so you must excuse this awful writing, as I can hardly hold my pencil. We have had snow on the Peninsula all the week, so you can guess how cold it is. Have seen snow before to-day though; the English Tom Toms feel the cold as much as us, or even more for they are shivering all day long. I think the Australians can rough it! They say that the Canadians are going to releive us for the winter; they have had special training for hot & cold climates, so they ought to be able to take the work over. Our mail which was to arrive last week was sunk; the steamer was torpedoed on the way from Alexandria to Lemnos Isld. I received a letter card from Dad, dated 1-8-15, also a letter from you & Yvonne, dated 17-7-15 & July 26th (both in same envelope) & the same mail brought me one from my girl friend (Rees). Have not had a single letter from Miss Cruickshank, so I wish you would write to her please Mother. We often
