learn; of course we made the very same mistakes; some Yanks were put in to the -- division, one battalion had two Coy's of them - to see them lined up on parade they were almost up to strength - they gave a good account of themselves - Rupes Batt. had some in too when they took Hamel, perhaps he has told you. I have not seen Rupe since the latter place but he is O.K. like myself.
Spent my 21st Birthday in a little dugout in the west; fancy having four Birthdays at this game and we thought it would be all over in a few weeks (instead of being all over the world). The first one I spent on the coast (of Gallipoli) the next one at Armentieres, the next one in a nice bed in Blighty (in hospital) and this one well it was warm for about an hour; they brought three hun planes down soon after. The next I'll spend in Aussie I hope. Some more men will be going to Aussie soon, expect I shall be in that batch, lets hope so anyway.
