My dear Mother,
As I am expecting some letters from you by to-days Australian mail, this letter will be rather short, as I will no doubt have to answer to-night's letters too. Our battalion are again in the trenches after having a few weeks spell; (fatigues galore) this afternoon and last night we
stirred Fritzy & Co up a million; he must be hard at work once more building up his winter quarters; the last month he has been making everything nice and comfortable for the cold weather, only to have it all rooted up by our shells; the gunners simply delight in it too. How cruel! When the trench mortars' let go their killing tools, you see the huns duck boards, sandbags etc, go up into the air everywhere a killer goes. There are no two ways about it,
