My dear Mother,
Your lovely long lost letter dated January 14th arrived for me to-day it is rather late in putting in an appearance for I had one later (Jan 23) a month ago from Dad - how it is that Dads always reach me is a puzzle. When you miss a mail or two you certainly make up for it, the next one arrives with umteen pages. The second day I arrived I applied for leave to go and see Rupe who was expecting to go any day; I got same without any trouble at all, but I was travelling in the train on the return journey from eight pm till three 45 am, anyhow it landed home O.K. The ticket cost me nothing; went up most of the way in third class, then hopped into a first class for the rest of the journey and returning home came all the way 1st.
