July 7th 1916
Dear Dad,
Received another newsy letter from you a few days ago, also from the rest of The Nest, as well as other friends. We are near the firing line again this time in Frogland though. These germhums will get a doing this time like the Russians give them only a few times better. All had a loverly trip from Gippo land. There is a huge bombardment going on now so I will only write a small letter in case we get blown up, and that I dont want to happen as I have a good few letters to write, girls to at that. There is a good place for beer drinkers here, as beer is only a penny a glass, just suit some of these shirkers who stay behind. Gin had a good collection didnt she? Mum a girl again too! How the people cheered us was hard to return, we passed town after town who were delighted to see us. Train loads of wounded passed us who we also cheered. (9th July) We have again moved towards the firing line since I wrote. Saw an air fight too. Whall have to close now as I missed last mail. Love to all from
Your loving son
Rex
