Dear Mother
I received your most welcome and newsy letter dated January 9th, which I was pleased to get; it is the first one since Christmas from you or anyone else. The mails come to me now alright from anyone who writes. There is no need to fear at all, so calm yourself down to normal again, for I am alright; and looking for more. We could not write for a few weeks prior to the evacuation, as JOHN TURK might have learnt all about it. There was only one place where casualities occurred that was at Cape Helles, four were wounded, and are better now; not a single mishap happened at Anzac that is where we left. It was a very pretty sight to see everything in flames on the beach, and especially to see the big underground mine explode. You should go to the country for at least a month, and dont bother about me even if you do miss a mail, I shall know that you are not well. And when we you go for these picnics, dont you get thing ready, let the others do it. Am glad you like Jess, she is a seed.
