We are getting ready for the winter now, as we are going to have tin (galvanised iron) over our dugouts, which will be of great use to all of us. "Abdul" is also getting ready, for he has got his rainproof up, and is also getting more. Some Turks gave themselves up last night, about thirty of them; they must have been fresh troops for they had good clothing and were in good nick. We have had pretty rough seas here lately; they had a line laid along the beach, that got washed away together with a lot of biscuits, it also washed away the wharves, and which caused great inconvenience.
Have been to find out about Rod; am sorry to say that he was left at Heliopolis; he was suffering from influenza they say, also "Chook" Marsden. I had a snifter cold on the chest, also one in the head all last week, but soon got rid of them, as I am in the know with the "Quack". We (3 of us) are living high at present, sardines and tomato sauce for tea; we get roast for dinner, with "Murphies" or onions; breakfast brings us tea and bacon; all meals go down well. I get good things as I am "D" companys clerk, and am always
