TUESDAY - 22ND DECEMBER 1914:

The "Lorengou" left at 11-0 p.m. for New Ireland. She will call first at Labore and land a garrison of 1 Sergeant and 12 Men of the relief force for Namatanai. She will then proceed to Kaiwieng, and bring back to Rabaul the garrison relieved by the "Eastern", calling at Labore on the return trip. Captain Thorold had been asked to remain at Kaiwieng as District Officer by the Administrator.

The first death from disease in the Naval and Military Forces occurred this afternoon, viz: -
At Namanula Hospital - No. 2673, Armorer, Charles Henry Foster Gardner, Naval Force; cause of death Malaria. Next of Kin - Mother: Ann Jane Rosse, 'Eurella', Mont Albert Road, Balwyn, Victoria.

A message was dispatched to the Minister for Defence.

There are several cases of Malaria in Hospital at present.
