THURSDAY - 29TH OCTOBER 1914:

At 4-0 a.m. the following message was received from Navy Office: -

"Presuming "Messina" calls at Ocean Island to land stores and to take Pacific Phosphate Coy. British Staff to Nauru."

The Administrator, in absence of any information of this character, had decided to proceed direct to Ocean Island and interview the British Resident Commissioner at that place before landing at Nauru.

At 7-45 p.m. the following message was received: -

"To Administrator - Garden Island:
"Komet" arrived here; is to be taken in hand for arming.""
