FRIDAY - 2ND OCTOBER 1914:
Lt.-Col. Watson, O.C. Troops, proceeded to Herbertshohe to enquire into the administration and garrison arrangements there.
At noon the fleet returned to Rabaul and will remain here until further orders are received.
The duties of Paymaster of Troops were transferred from Captain Travers to Captain Fry, in charge of Treasury.
Mr. Whittle, Naval Reserve Intelligence Officer, is taking over the duties of Director of Public Works.
Arrangements were made to send the Madang to pick-up the troops who were landed on the South Coast. At 7-0pm Lt.-Col. Watson reported that this party was returning by land to Kaba Kaul and were in communication with Herbertshohe. They will be taken by motor boat from Kaba Kaul to Herbertshohe.
A report on Herbertshohe Garrison will be submitted by Lt.-Col. Watson to-morrow.
The P.M.O. reports that the health of the troops at Rabaul and Herbertshohe is excellent.
