FRIDAY - 13TH NOVEMBER 1914:
At 12-30 a.m. the following reply to message received from Defence Department was transmitted:-"Pethebridge: Your 6038: Understand Higgins represents Mr. Louri, a local Merchant. No objection - Administrator."and at 1-30 a.m. the following message was also despatched:-"Pethebridge: Commander Beresford invalided by "Matunga", Tuberculosis. Have promoted Lambton to fill vacancy. Please send by first ship £3,500 for Naval and Military pay and a similar sum monthly - Administrator."
The decisions of the Courts Martial on No. 726 Pte. R. Harwick, No. 637 Pte. W. Penney, and No.1053 Pte.R. Hunter were announced; Harwick was found guilty of desertion and sentenced to 28 days field punishment with forfeiture of pay; Penney was found guilty of robbery in China Town and sentenced to 4 years penal servitude and discharged with ignominy from His Majesty's Service; and Hunter, who was also found guilty of robbery in China Town, was sentenced to 3 years penal servitude and discharged with ignominy from His Majesty's Service.
The "Messina" will leave to-morrow, with a guard under Lieut[enant] Sherbon over the German Prisoners and other Court Martial cases.
Health of the troops continues satisfactory.
