WEDNESDAY - 23RD DECEMBER 14:

A message has been received by a Schooner from Kaiwieng, stating that the "Eastern", after anchoring at that place, had swung around on to a reef. Major Heritage, however, is of opinion the vessel will get off safely.

The "Fantome" left at 6-0 p.m. for Kaiwieng, as mentioned in diary of 21st Dec.

A second death occurred at Herbertshohe to-day, viz.
No. 369, A.B. - Herbert Charles Williams, Naval Force, cause of death Meningitis supervening on Malaria. Next of kin - Mother, Elizabeth Williams, 21 Langley Lane, South Lambeth Road, Vaux Hall, London.

A message was accordingly prepared for dispatch to the Minister for Defence.
