spirit I have since been very sanguine of success.

I certainly did not anticipate so complete a defeat - but it will recoil upon them all by & by.

It is fortunate I did not go into the Secretary's office with the letter - Sir Thomas would certainly have flinched and left me in the lurch - Unfortunate man - he has settled it now indeed.

It is very cloudy & threatens to be a wet night - I do not read this over & must beg of you to pardon inaccuracies.
