At half past two I was assured that Major G. produced a letter which he said had been written some days but wh he did not like to send until it had been submitted to His Excellency. Sir Thos added he had forgotten to examine the date. I then went to the Secys office. The letter had been sent to the General Hospital.
Found there the letter dated 17th Feby from Major G. Returned to Sir Thomas immediately "Ha - Well you have got the letter? I hope it is satisfactory". "Quite the reverse Sir Thomas. I have brought it to show you as I cannot conceive Yr Excellency has seen or sanctioned a communication which is so entirely at variance with yr assurances.
"Ha - Yes these reserves are to be referred to Lord Bathurst but in the mean time yr father is to be put in possession of them". - "That is not stated Sir" - "No" (looking again at the letters) it must be an accidental omission" - "But look at the terms, Sir, on wh the land is offered - they are in direct opposition to Lord Bathurst's
