[November 5, 1918]

Left Salisbury by the 8.50 AM & changed at Portsmouth arriving at Lewes about 2 PM got home to Newhaven about 4.15 & went for a walk along Newhaven cliffs.  I am staying with an American Lady called Mrs Lane & they are very nice & kind.  Newhaven is a very busy place just now.

My hopes have risen & been crushed to the ground again today.
