[April 14, 1918]

Letter From J.F.
Sent cards to Bob, J.F., & Aunty Liz.
1/3 loaf

After Breakfast I set to & got myself cleaned up which was quite a treat, I was in a filthy state because it is a week ago since I had a wash. I went out & met some of my School mates in the N.F. (Bob Nesbit, F. Hardy, R. Hakin, J. Hakin, & some more who knew me but I did not know them. Just spent pretty well near all the day with them. There is plenty troops about here & they are still taking guns up the line. There is hardly any Civilians here now because they are expecting Fritz coming through here.

It is a fairly cold evening & very windy. I got a shock today when I learned that Allan Cormack had died from the wounds he received about a fortnight ago. Everybody is very down hearted to hear such bad new, he was the best soldier & best liked in the Bn.
