[April 22, 1918]

¼ loaf.

A lovely morning, I had a walk out of the village to A. Coy, it is lovely out here from the village the fields are all green with only a few shell holes about. It has been a real Summer's day. Our fellows are giving Fritz's a few shells in exchange for the few he is giving us. Got some Civilian clothes today & my mate dressed as a man & me as a woman, it caused a bit fun, the Officers took it in good spirits & just laughed, they might have said something because we had neither gas helmet nor tin hats. There is the 7th NFs [Northumberland Fusiliers] here. A very quiet night nothing special doing.
