Blighty Southampton

Woke at 3 AM & after I had a wash I went on board & had a glimpse of dear Old Blighty & it looked grand after being away for 12 months. The destroyers & other ships are following behind & in front of us. Got into Southampton about 7.30 AM & off the ship about 9 AM. We left in our train about 11 AM & travelled up through Romsey, Andover, Sevenoke [Savernake Forest]  [South] Cerney & to Cheltenham station where we got off the train & a gentleman took eleven of us for his V.A.D. Hospital. There was a lot of people at the station & I felt ashamed because we were dirty & in rags. Three of us got into a four seater car with the driver & I came 8 miles to this VAD Hospital at Winchcombe (Gloucester), the country was just lovely & I really think one view is the best I have ever seen. There is only 25 of us in this hospital & plenty nurses to make us comfortable. My word it is lovely to get in a bath & clean pajamas & into bed between the white sheets.
