[May 21, 1918]

Wrote to G. Swanson addressed to Aunt Liz & home.

We enjoyed our sleep in the open. After breakfast I went down to the river Somme for a swim & it was lovely, our Bn were on a swimming parade, but as they had to be marched down with rifle & equipment I sneaked out of it. Its a glorious day & we have done very little except sit in the open writing letters while the boys were down for a swim.

Fritz was over here this evening dropping bombs, it is a lovely moonlight night & great for bombing.

It is lovely sleeping in the open, this open air life suits me atreat.
