Wrote to Mrs Murray, Swanson, & Aunt Meg.
We had a very quiet day, quite a lot of Planes up, two fo Fritzs were brought down close by. Its been a beautiful day. I visited the old church today & it is in ruins, the destruction of this village is horrible. Woollen mills or factories, flour mills & very beautiful & well furnished are in ruins. It has been a very wealthy town, because the houses are well furnished with very valuable furniture. Fritz is still putting shells here. Not much to do through the day except salvage wire. We started to lay a new line as soon as it got dark & when we ere laying it about 10.30 PM Fritz put some gas shells over & we had to put our helmets on, we found our way but we had to soon take our helmets off & risk it, we got back to H.Q & found them with their helmets on. We finish our line & got the gas out of our cellar & laid down. I have got a dose of it my eyes & throat are sore.
