[October 27, 1918]

Letter from Aunt Liz & T. Kilpatrick.

After 10 AM I cycled to some coal mines at Radstock some nine miles from here.  The mines look very small & one fellow told me that some of the seams were only 1 ft & 2 ft in thickness & the wheelers were strapped just like dogs to draw the skips.  I went & came back via Norton Philiphs [Norton St. Philip] but it is a rough road, I would fancy it is much better via Frome.

I stayed in Beckington all night, not feeling inclined to cycle home in the dark.  It is a very nice night only a little bit cold.
