[May 20, 1918]

Wrote 9th to Pinnock.
letter from G. Swanson

A lovely morning when we woke for breakfast at 8.30. After breakfast I went down to the River Somme for a swim some 2 miles from here & it was very nice, a little cold but very good, I have a very sore throat yet & can hardly speak & I am taking some French cough medicine I got in a chemist shop in the village.

Its a lovely Summers day, Yes a Summers day.

We had nothing to do after dinner so I just collected my thoughts & wrote a letter. In the evening I had a walk on the lines to B. Coy, it is a lovely night, & we did not get releaved here till about midnight, they we went back about 2 miles & my mate & me slept in the open. Fritz was over dropping bombs but we did not worry about it.
