[April 13, 1918]

¼ loaf

On duty from 2 AM till about 6 AM, we were on the look out for Fritz coming over this morning, but no, everything is very quiet. I had a bit fun firing at Fritz this morning about 800 yards but we could not see if we got any. He does not snipe at us at all & we gave him every chance. We are getting ready to be releaved this evening. Its been fairly quiet & about 8.30 PM we were releaved by the 13th Rifle Bde, all 13's today. Stray bullets were flying about when we were coming out, but none touched us. A lot of our guns were firing when we were coming out & it is a rotten experience, its just like Hell, & its beginning to try my nerves. I don't feel as good, or the same since Bullecourt. What a relief to get back to Coigneaux [Coigneux], & get a feed & lie down. Its a fairly cold night & I could not sleep for the chats & the cold.
