Dear Sir In reply to your note of the 22 April I beg to accept your assurance that you did not communicate to the Press any information [about?] the Phylloxera at C.P. [Camden Park] until after it had been published. I have since learned that the [indecipherable] notice in the Paper appeared in the Evening news the information being obtained by application at the Colonial Secretary's office - [indecipherable] making the report to the Government in a confidential way was entirely with my concurrence - the object in doing so was to enable the government to ascertain to what extent the disease existed before the discovery was made public and so to avoid creating any scare among the Vignerons
