[August 6, 1918]

About 6 AM we arrived at Rouen & about 7 AM we were going through the town in the cars on the way to the hospital. We had some breakfast, & a bath & into blue [uniform] & went to see the Dr. It is an American Hospital & the Dr looked kind hearted, when he saw my ticket he said another Aussie wounded & I just thought he would give me a good go but not Blighty, H took the piece of shell out of my arm &  I got my arm dressed & again at 5 PM. Got a shock tonight they told me I am going to Blighty, I am almost mad with joy, I never exapected it.
They issued me with old Khaki to go to Blighty in & told me I had to be called at 1.30 AM but I did not need any calling because i did not sleep.
