Sent cards home

Allonville

Our guns opened up about 4 AM & kept us awake, Fritz may have chucked some back but I could not hear nothing but our own guns. We packed up & left our billet about 11 AM & marched to Lamotte [Lamotte-Brebiere] & had a swim in the river Somme & after dinner we marched to Allonville, it was a very hot day, about the hottest I have ever experienced, the sweat was running in streams.

We got to our billets at Allonville & felt very tired, our billets are very good, we are in the out sheds of the houses in the village.

It is a lovely evening & I would have liked to find a good place outside to sleep, a few women around here so we do not like to sleep out in the Paddock.
