2.  that chap V.V.Brown you spoke of by sight.  He certainly did get quick promotion.  Promotions with us have been very rapid lately, since we went into action last, & several have jumped from the ranks, into their commish.  Yours truly did not fluke one, as none of my seniors got in the road of anything, but one never knows, it might be my turn next.  I made a bit of a start towards it, according to the news which was read out to us on parade this morning.  The list of all those, who were mentioned in despatches was read to us & I, yes I was amongst them.  I don't know whether it is going further but it probably will judging by what the O.C said.  Goodness knows what it is for, I don't.  At any rate it is posted in Brigade Records so he says, & there it will remain.  Now, what do you think of that?  We are just on our way up to the firing line, & suppose we will be into it again, within a few days.  If I should get a Blighty this trip, I intend to apply for permission
