6.  obtaining his commish.  Have you yet received the p/cs I sent you from Staples?  They tell me that the Anzac book was not sent until we arrived in France.  While I think of it, I want to thank you for the tartan ribbon you so kindly sent me.  The boys wanted to know if it was to tie up my hair, as it was a bit long.  We have one chap with us, who was a barber in Sydney, so we get a hair cut whenever we want it.  One of the boys got a real flash pair of socks the other day, & they are the envy of all of us, they had our colors on top, white over green.  You should see our flash badges, it is a small khaki bomb with a red burst, something like this [see images] about two inches long, & worn on the right arm.  We're some class I can tell you.  We have had to discard a lot of our things to lighten our packs but have stuck to all my socks, & have still got the brown muffler, which will be the last thing I'll throw off, although when we get into it, & start in earnest for Berlin, we will probably have to leave our packs behind.  Am glad to
