2.  are absolute savages, & I guess he believes it, as our artillery is constantly speaking & our chaps get excited now & then & hop up on the parapet, & invite him to come over & have a go.  Of course we dont have all the say, as you may guess, but he does not speak out of his turn as often as we do.  The Tommies blame us again for spoiling this part of the line, the same as we spoilt everything else.  They said this was the quietest part of the front when we relieved others, a kind of rest camp, but now it is as lively as any other place.  They used to go the whole day without hardly firing a shot, & used to make arrangements for a quiet nights rest.  Our chaps thought this was "no bon" as it meant longer in getting back to the girls we love so thus the disturbance.  Things look fine to us, The Russians are doing ground work.  The Townsend business certainly was a bit of a knock, but after all they did not gain very much, & even now are paying for their temporary success.  By the way, do you recollect that namesake of mine with the same initial as mine, who left with us, I think I told you of him, well he got properly today, so please dont mistake it for me, if you see the name in the lists.  So far I have been very fortunate & though I have had one, or two, close calls, or what appeared to be such, I think & feel sure my luck will
