& see if he could arrange for me to cable & get a couple of pounds so that I could collect it down here.  Well he would not listen to the suggestion, as he said that I would want all my bobs when I got back.  I said I guessed I would, but that we had been buying our own bread for a fortnight & as I was only getting a shilling a day again, I could not get along on it.  He went off a treat about the food & said it would be looked to.  Then he offered me the loan of three pounds to carry on with.  I said if I could I suggested that I should write Father & get him to give it to Mrs Mac A. but, he would not listen to this & said if I did, he would not give it to me.  I was either to take it, & pay it back myself whenever I could, & say nothing of it at home, or else leave it.  I took it, but told him first, that he would not get it, this side of the equator, unless my luck changed.  He then said he would expect it when I got my stripes back again.
Well to make a long story short, I went out, & bought a camera with thirty-five shillings.  Since then I have been taking photos.  I am going to send you a print of each one & the negative I will send to Dad & he can get what he wants printed.  If you want more, you can
