to see them & they brought plenty of eatables.  We had roast fowl, scones cakes, jam rolls, fruit cake & tomatoes, all for breakfast.  At nine thirty I had to fall in & go on guard for twenty-four hours.  I should have been on duty for two hours & off for four but one of our fellows went to sleep on duty & the Sgrt Major caught him & had him put in the guard tent.  This meant I had to do double shift.  We were on guard at the main gate & used to stick the milkman & all the tradesmen up.  We got milk, pies, bread, soft drinks, morning paper, all for nothing.  

Have got all the afternoon off & am going on guard at
