cousin Annie.  Perhaps the Miss Harper, is one of Cousin Jennie's friends, who were squabbling about the color of my eyes.  Am glad to know I caused a bit of a commotion somewhere, at some period of my life.  Its to be hoped no blood was spilt.  Talking of short-bread, I've lived on it since I joined the army, we are always getting short bread, sometimes none at all.  I am awfully sorry your proud feelings, will have to undergo a slight change in the addressing of my letters, as the Sergeant Gordon, is done with for some time & you will have to go back to just plain Corp.  Any how Nell, I hope to be able to change those feelings back to the old channel again at some far, future date.  Thank Mum & Jen for their congratulations & tell them that they will do for next time.  Give my regards to all, & tell Arch to be more careful in future, about dropping his plates.  I will close with best love & lots of kisses from Al.

P.S.  Please pardon to scribble, but these letters are written under great difficulties.  The last one I wrote, I set fire to with the candle after I had written it. Al
