Trenches

Dear Nell,
After being delayed for some days, your parcel or rather mine now, turned up safe & sound.  The puttees are grand & will be warm to wear as well as comfortable.  Although the first pair were good these are better, as they are longer & thicker.  I have not worn the military puttees since yours arrived, & I don't think I will unless its a necessity.  They surely do look a bit swanky, I know, but as they are convenient, & comfortable, it suits me, so I'll wear them.  Thanks for the programme you enclosed, judging by the photos, the buildings must be fine, & I guess it would not be such a terrible hardship to be an orphan under those circs, what do you think.  Of course its far better not to be one, but if they are all looked after in the same manner as the Highland Society are doing, well, there will be far less misery for all hands.  I noticed that Mum managed to pilot you all close up to the pipes, & I hope none of you forgot
