for ourselves, & so I went over to the cooks, & made use of their fire & made some toast.  It was great.  Not very far from where we are there is a big, old fashioned, wind-mill, & the man who is working it is nearly as ancient.  One thing I have noticed, & that is that there is not one single man, in this country, who is not too old, for service, who is not in uniform.  Even the men working in the field, are often in uniform.  The old people both men, & women, do all the work, & of course there are all the fine girls, they all give a hand.  There are two girls on the farm, & they are up about four o'clock in the morning feeding, & milking, the cows.  They have two fine dogs, & what do you think?  They are fed on Bread, & Milk.  Think of it.  Bread & Milk, while We get bully beef.  (Its not worth while putting in caps.)  The dogs here are used for many things, such as pulling carts, etc.  I saw one today pulling a big hand cart.  The man held the cart on the balance
