Dear Nell,
I received your letters dated 22/4/16 & 30/4/16 this morning. Since we came out of the trenches, the mail has been a bit irregular as the letters are still sent to the Coy, but when we get back in again things should be as before.
We have been getting some very bad weather this last few days & have to paddle around in mud up to our knees. (in places). You say you are sending a warmer pair of puttees, well I am pleased to hear it, as it is very chilly at times. Its a good thing I discarded the kilts, they would be no "bon" in this country. Say, "have you heard it, Micky Rooney's, I mean Micki Riskie's Rag Time army? The Rooshans are going great guns now, & its to be hoped they can keep going, as the harder, & further, they go, the quicker we will all "imshee" to that little "warm spot" down South. You tell Miss Amy, that in future not to prophesy because she does not get letters, & is forgotten by her friends, it does not signify that other folk are going to be treated in like manner.
