2.  an open space.  A few bullets went over, but seemed to be fairly high.  Just as I was putting a bag down with a shovel, Zip a bullet hit right between my feet, & splashed dirt all over me.  One piece hit me on the back of the head, & for the moment, I thought I had stopped the real thing.  One bound, & I was on the far side of the parapet, & crouched as low as I could get.  After my shakeness had passed off I crawled back & carried on the good work.  We had been going again for about ten minutes, when he fired a little higher & hit [indecipherable] working on the other side.  He was very badly hit.  The [indecipherable].  He was particularly [indecipherable] , as it was the third occasion on which he was wounded.  When we are relieved from here, I will probably be going to a grenade school, which should be very interesting, after which we will again have the honour of entertaining Fritz, perhaps to make it a little more livelier for him.
