is here somewhere but I did not see him. I am under McNaughton again, you remember he was with the Scottish Rifles, so am satisfied. We are getting bully-beef & biscuits now & the first day I broke one of my th teeth off the plate & will have to let it slide now I suppose. The biscuits are like bricks, but are good eating.
I have been washing clothes all this afternoon, & am getting quite expert at it. We have to wash, in our little dixies that we eat out of. We even have to have a bath in them. Well Nell, this will have to be a very short letter, as we cannot tell very much news. From this on you will not get very long letters, & perhaps not too regular, but I will write you every opportunity, you can rest assured. I intended to send you something for your birthday, but now you will have to wait awhile. I got your last parcel safely. You might tell Mum that the shirts are doing great work, but they would be far better if she could put
