Dear Nell,
Yours of the 20th to hand, & I'm still O.K. We are now under shell-fire, & my word it is a queer sensation. Shells lob everywhere. Some of them fail to explode & of course the is no harm done, but when they explode, well, its a case of duck, if you are handy. One never knows where our guns are. You might be walking along with your mind on home & other things, when, Bang, & you think Home & Other things have gone to Glory. The report of a gun is awful, until you get used to it. The first day I heard them, I used to shrivel up, & nearly jerk my head off trying to get out of the way. Anyway I am now pretty well used to them & take no notice of them. One thing, I might tell you, I have not lost any sleep over them.
As you know I am now a Grenadier, & some class at that, as I have now been transfered to Batt. Hd. Qrts Team, which consists of thirty-three men, & I am senior corp. We have a billet to ourselves & I am once again under Lt Boileau. We only do special
