A number of our chaps were left behind.  They went off to buy some fruit, & missed us.  We are so crowded on board, that one can hardly move about.  We have fourteen in our mess, & so far the food is nothing to write home about.  I had my eighth inoculation yesterday & my arm is very sore today.  We should all be proof against disease, at any rate.
So far the sea has been perfectly calm.  We have a submarine guard mounted continually, armed with rifles, & the Lewis, machine guns.  It is our company's turn for guard duties today, but so far I have missed it.  There is one good thing about stripes in the army, & that is, no mess
