Dear Nell,
I did not answer your letter, at the same time as, the others because I only received them on Sunday afternoon, & as I had to leave that billet at seven, the following morning I did not have time to answer them all. Yours, always take me about double the space of time, for some reason or other, so I get rid of the minor ones first, & then settle down to bed. Well Nell, just when all the letters arrived, I got word to say that I had to go on in advance in order to help arrange for our next billet, which we inhabited for one night, or part of the night, as we had to get up at three in the morning, & move off, in the rain. Six of us went in advance, in company with an officer who had a stride double the stride of the ordinary person. We had to follow him for seven miles, with full pack up
