This is perhaps the greatest victory the Council ever had on Railways and public works, and it will be a precedent for the future against improper lines being submitted to the Council.  I had to get the Evidence prepared, and I had even to send Engineers twice to report upon both lines.  The Press was also against my line and I could only get articles inserted as personal favours.  But I feel that the greater the difficulty was, the more satisfaction I feel at my victory.  I had some property on the line I advocated which increased my difficulties, I however persevered and convinced the Council that the Govt. line was wrong.  I feel that I have not only been instrumental in saving the State about £100,000, but I have
