too well grounded.  I was perhaps too plainly independent in my arguments in my early correspondence with him and I always thought that I gave him offence then, were it otherwise I do not think he could have refused to endorse Mr. Lockarts [Lockharts?] recommendation to withdraw the runs.  Lockarts letters to him shew that the Govt were wrong.  I wish Mr. Robertson could be induced to read the correspondence, and he would see that the Government
